To Die For
1995 (1998) - Columbia/TriStar Home Video

review by Todd Doogan, special to The Digital Bits

Enhanced for 16x9 TVs

Film Rating: A
To me, the black comedies are always better than your normal "ha-ha" comedies. Throw in directing whirlwind Gus Van Sant, the slightly skewered comic sense of Buck Henry, and an all-star cast, and you have my vote for one of the funniest "mocumentaries" ever made.

Disc Ratings (Video/Audio/Extras): A/B+/C
The audio is pretty good. The image quality is better. I was a little scared that the DVD would fail, in the brilliant opening title sequence with its vibrant use of close up newspaper photos. Surprise to me - it's one of the clearest DVD images out there. No real extras, outside of the hilarious trailer.

Overall Rating: A-
It's a wickedly funny movie and a beautiful disc. Not much more can be said.

106 mins, R, letterboxed widescreen (1.85:1), 16x9 enhanced, full frame (1.33:1), dual-sided, singled-layered, Amaray keep case packaging, theatrical trailer, film-themed menu screens, scene access (28 chapters), languages: English (DD 5.1), English & French (DD 2.0), subtitles: English &French, Close Captioned

Bottom line

Go out there and pick this baby up. It's as pretty as its star, Nicole Kidman.
