Stripes
1981 (1998) - Columbia/TriStar Home Video

review by Todd Doogan, special to The Digital Bits

Enhanced for 16x9 TVs

Film Rating: A
Bill Murray is one funny guy. Here, in Stripes, he's at his most charming best. Every year I watch this film, usually around New Year's. It's always on the Superstation, and now I own it on DVD, so I can watch it in style.

Disc Ratings (Video/Audio/Extras): A+/B-/C
The sound is pretty standard, but geez Louise, the film looks great. In fact, my jaw fell onto the floor. I didn't ever expect to see this movie look this good. I'm still in shock.

Overall Rating: A
A funny movie, a flawless transfer -- get out there and buy this disc.

Specs and Features

106 mins, R, letterboxed widescreen (1.85:1), 16x9 enhanced, full frame (1.33:1), dual-sided, singled-layered, Amaray keep case packaging, theatrical trailer, film-themed menu screens, scene access (28 chapters), languages: English & French (DD 2.0), subtitles: English & French, Close Captioned

Bottom line

I love it when a favorite movie comes out on DVD. But when a favorite movie comes out looking this great, it's time to climb to the rafters and scream about it. This is a fine looking disc, and I'm glad Columbia took the time to treat it as nicely as they did.
