Rating: B-
Whoopi. Big whoop. I must be one of the only people who thinks she
should have stayed on Broadway doing one woman shows. The great
things about this movie are Will Smith as Tea Cake and Nia Long (Soul
Food). I forgot both of these talents were in this movie
-- and seeing them in it made all the other bad elements shrink
away.
Disc Ratings (Video/Audio/Extras):
B-/B-/F
The images are very clean, but have a dull edge to them. Colors are
sharp, but not as vibrant as I seem to remember in theaters. Should
have been widescreen. Still, on DVD it looks 1,000 times better than
video.
Overall Rating: B-
Ah, I'm not a big fan of the movie. It's a typical story of mixed
matches that click -- but all the performances are solid. The DVD is
fine, nothing to write home about. |
Specs
and Features
111 mins, PG-13, full frame (1.33:1), single-sided, single-layered,
Snapper case, scene access (23 chapters), language: English (DD
2.0), subtitles: English, Close Captioned
Bottom line
Hey, if you like Ted, Whoopi, Nia Long or Will... this is the movie
for you. All come together in solid workman's fashion. The disc is
simply okay, but I wouldn't expect anything more for this title
other than maybe a widescreen format. Hear that Warner Bros.?
