Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson star in this savage spoof of the Lethal Weapon films (and a few other over-the-top action films as well). Estevez plays Colt and Jackson is Luger, two cops on the trail of a former government military star turned evil criminal mastermind (played by William Shatner). The bad guy's plan? To turn delicious Wilderness Girl cookies into drug-laced treats that hook the American people, and turn them into brainless slaves. As is the case in films like this, some jokes fall flat while others hit dead-on. If you keep your eyes open, you'll see a bunch of really funny cameos from the likes of Charlie Sheen and Bruce Willis. Loaded Weapon isn't the best of its breed, but it doesn't suck. And on DVD, it more than doesn't suck.

This is a really nice New Line movie-only edition, with a full-on anamorphic transfer on one layer and a standard pan and scan on the other. The colors are rich and the picture looks great. Hey -- it's not Lawrence of Arabia. But it certainly looks like every other crime action epic, sometimes even better. The sound is also nice, with a full sound stage and plenty of boom. It's not the most active surround sound mix I've ever heard, but that's more a film thing that a DVD thing. Also included on the disc is the trailer and some biographies.

When it comes to movie-only editions, New Line is the bomb. If you enjoyed Loaded Weapon or the type of film it represents, DVD is a great way to see or own it. The disc itself may not be loaded, but the presentation will knock you out.
