Frantic
1987 (1998) - Warner Bros.

review by Todd Doogan, special to The Digital Bits

Film Rating: A
This is a really freaky movie. Imagine waking up from a hard day, in a city you don't know, that speaks a language you can hardly comprehend, only to find that your wife is missing. I dunno know about you, but I'm glad it's Harrison up there on screen and not me.

Disc Ratings (Video/Audio/Extras): C-/C/F
The audio is fine, but the video is very, very grainy and digital looking. It also doesn't help that the framing is wrecked due to the P&S format. And no extras for a film that deserves them.

Overall Rating: C-
Of all the movies Warner has dumped as P&S only DVDs, this is the one that I'm most shocked about. This movie deserved better.

Specs and Features

120 mins, R, full frame (1.33:1), single-sided, single-layered, Snapper case, scene access (32 chapters), language: English (DD 2.0), subtitles: English, Close Captioned

Bottom line

Like I said, I have no idea why Warner dumped this wicked flick. Roman Polanski's second best film should look a whole lot better on DVD. Let's hope Chinatown fares better when Paramount releases it to DVD (bring it on!)...
