Back in 2002 and early 2003, The Digital Bits went behind the scenes with DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika on the making of Fox's Alien Quadrilogy DVD box set (see our review here). We were granted full and in-depth access to the production by the studio over a period of many months. The result of our involvement and efforts was eventually published as a full section of our 2003 book, The Digital Bits: Insider's Guide to DVD. To those of you Bits veterans who purchased that delightful and invaluable tome... thank you! (It's still available on Amazon.com for a mere pittance!) To you rarefied individuals, what follows will certainly be familiar ground. But for you newer Bits readers, and those of you who missed the book, you'll be seeing this material for the very first time. Since all of the Alien Quadrilogy special features will soon be carried over to Fox's new Alien Anthology Blu-ray collection, the time is right to re-publish here on The Bits - it's very first appearance online. We think you'll all appreciate this detailed and exclusive look behind-the-scenes. Over the course of the next week, we'll post our full 2003 text in three parts.
But that's not all: Soon we'll add to this vintage coverage with a brand new piece looking ahead at the new features and extras Lauzirika and his team have recently created for Fox's updated Alien Anthology Blu-ray set, coming to stores near you in October. So click on the links below to start reading, and we hope you enjoy it!
