High-Definition DVD:
One Format Only!

The purpose of the HD-DVD: One Format Only! Campaign is to convey what we believe is a very important message, on behalf of DVD consumers everywhere, to the Hollywood movie studios, the consumer electronics manufacturers and all the members of the DVD Forum. That message is simple:

We believe that in order for any high-definition video disc format to be successful, all of the various parties involved MUST agree upon a SINGLE, unified format before making any such format available to consumers.

A similar, unified effort by the industry had a tremendous impact on the eventual success of the current, standard DVD format. And a lack of such unity has conversely resulted in widespread consumer confusion and disinterest in high resolution audio (as evidenced by the languishing DVD-Audio and SACD formats) and true recordable DVD (which suffers from multiple, competing and largely incompatible formats).

As of September 5th, 2002, there are no less than FOUR candidate specifications that have been proposed to the DVD Forum for high-definition DVD (HD-DVD).

We STRONGLY encourage the industry to consider its consumers during every step of the process of creating this new format, to ensure that the needs of end users are met (as well as the financial interests of the industry itself). Issues of backwards-compatibility with current DVD, the presentation of high-resolution video and audio that represents a CLEAR quality improvement over standard DVD, and eventual recording options, are VERY important to consumers. We urge the members of the DVD Forum to take these factors into consideration.

Anyone wishing to show support for the HD-DVD: One Format Only! Campaign may use and distribute the logos above freely and without restriction, provided that you link them to the OFFICIAL campaign webpage, which will act as the one-stop, official clearinghouse for HD-DVD and campaign information.
