About
the Artist of the Month Program / Application
Artist
of the Month Archive & Link Section
Who
doesn't like money?! This month we have a very unique artist that
I think you will all appreciate - Marc
Sky the Dollar Artist. He can turn a dollar (or two) into amazing
things - inlcuding the epic battle between Anakin vs. Obi-Wan. Check
out the images below to see which of your favorite movie characters
he can do - and be sure to check out his website
for many more characters, including Jesus, Moses, Homer Simpson, many
animals and personal messages. Enjoy!
If you are an artist and would like to be considered for the Artist
of the Month program, please email me at shunt@thedigitalbits.com.
See you again next month!

Artist's
Bio - Marc Sky
The
Art of Money - Where most people see a dollar bill
as currency to be spent, Marc Sky sees it a work of art, waiting
to be formed. Since his teenage years, he has been folding
and sculping bills into unusual eye-catching models. He has
created over a hundred unique and intricate sculptures out
of them, all for view and sale on his website, www.DollarArtist.com
His
favorite moments are when peoples eyes light up at seeing
what artforms an ordinary dollar bill takes, from kittens
and puppy dogs to human figures, initials, names, religious
symbols and famous icons, including King Kong atop the Empire
State Building.
|
When asked about the process of creating money art, Marc
says, "I try to take the intricate images, patterns
and swirls on the bill and create eyes and faces, then
sculpt the rest of the body. I don't think the original
engravers designed it with that in mind."
"What's fascinating is that if it's creased in a
certain spot, I can get the face of a cute kitten. But
if I crease it a fraction of an inch higher, it becomes
the face of a vicious Tyrannosaurus Rex."
The paper that money is made of is actually more cloth
than paper. "It's main ingredients are cotton, linen
and flax strands," he says. That's why paper money
in your pants pocket doesn't fall apart when you accidently
put it in the washing machine. It also makes a wonderful
medium for sculpting."
In addition to his website, Marc shows and sells his work
locally and at exhibits, as well as creating dollar sculptures
for people at social events. In his spare time, he likes
to cook and doesn't go out to restaurants that much.
"But," he adds, "when I do go out to eat,
I leave some interesting tips..."
