The Digital Bits is happy to present Mark Robert Halper as our Artist of the Month for April. He is a fantastic photographer. As you will see with the examples below, he has worked with many different celebrities and personalities. In addition to people, Mark also shoots still life and architecture. For those of aspiring actors and actresses out there, Mark does do headshots on a limited basis at more moderate pricing, you can learn more on his headshot page. Mark even took the bio pic of one of our previous Artists - Todd White. If you are working on a project where you need a great photographer, or if you would just like a really cool portrait, please visit his website - studiomark.com and call Mark for a quote.

Artist's Bio - Mark Robert Halper

Mark Robert Halper is passionate about everything he does. Based in Los Angeles, Mark has built a business that includes everything from advertising and annual reports to editorial clients. Mark works primarily in the area of people photography, but also shoots still life and architecture.

“From the beginning, I have always been motivated by the fun and challenge of assignment photography. There are a lot of photographers who shoot commercially to support their art, but I seem to do my favorite work on assignment." Mark graduated USC in 1987 with a degree in International Relations and Political Science. A year later, he began to take photography courses at UCLA Extension and work on his own to build a portfolio. (Mark would later return to UCLA, both as a photographer, and as an instructor.)

“I take out everything that isn't absolutely necessary, until the only elements that remain are those which are entirely essential; the best photographs are usually the simplest.” “It's about getting something honest out of who I'm shooting” and even the most challenging personalities come across as relaxed in his images. Mark has his own perspective, both visually and philosophically. “When I'm setting up people often don't understand what I'm doing, and that's how I know I'm on the right track. When they see the test shot they get this quizzical look on their face, as if they've never seen that particular corner of their own office or home before, and then they smile. They see something that can only be communicated visually. They see what I see; I've influenced the way they look at the world.”

“I'm a photographer because there is nothing else I would rather do. Besides, how else would I pay for all those DVD's?”

If you need what Mark can do, Mark has promised to give our readers special consideration; be sure to mention The Digital Bits when you call. His work can be seen at studiomark.com. Mark lives in Silverlake CA, and insists that all inquiries, of every kind, are welcome. We didn't ask.

We hope you enjoyed the work of Mark Robert Halper! Spring should be springing around the country, so get out there and enjoy it.

We've received numerous submissions for the program so far, but I am always eager to see more! It seems there are a lot of talented people out there. The program is open to artists of all kinds - painters, sculptors, illustrators, photographers and even performance artists. Professional or amateur. If you're interested in sharing your art with the world, or receiving more information about this program, please contact Sarah Hunt or click on the link below. See you again next month with another great artist!
