The
Digital Bits on Episode I
|
Welcome to The Digital Bits' coverage of
Star Wars: Episode I on DVD. It's here
that you'll learn everything there is to know about this awesome 2-disc set from
Fox and Lucasfilm, which streets on October 16th. We've got a full-length review
of the DVD, as well as a look at the menu screens and even a Q & A with the
man himself, director George Lucas, along with several others who were involved
in the DVD's production.
But first, the good news. We know when the next Star
Wars film will be released on DVD. If all goes well, it'll be Episode
II - Attack of the Clones and it will come out late next year at the
same time as the VHS release, after the film's theatrical run. But there's bad
news too... the next DVD after that will be Episode
III, some three years later. And the original Trilogy
won't appear on DVD until after Episodes II
and III are complete. The reason is that
Lucas needs more time to create special edition materials for those discs (his
staff didn't really start documenting the productions until Episode
I). And there have been all kinds of rumors that Lucas plans to shoot
and add still more scenes to Star Wars,
The Empire Strikes Back and Return
of the Jedi before he releases them on DVD - rumors made somewhat
more believable given the comments that Lucas himself makes in the Q & A
you'll find below.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. It's not every day that you get an
invitation to visit the Skywalker Ranch, and yes... it is every bit the cool
experience you'd expect it to be. But this story isn't about the Ranch... it's
about the DVD. So here's everything you need to know about Star
Wars: Episode I on disc. I think you'll agree, it's been worth the
wait.
